Rwanda has emphasized that a ceasefire is essential to allow humanitarian operations to take place in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe made the remarks in a statement shared on social media. He noted that on October 30, 2025, at the Élysée Palace in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron and Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, the African Union’s appointed mediator in the DRC-M23 conflict, hosted a closed-door meeting attended by heads of state and representatives from the Great Lakes region (DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, and Uganda).
The meeting was also attended by representatives from the United States and Qatar. Its main focus was to address humanitarian challenges and the living conditions of civilians in eastern DRC, under the framework of the Paris Conference for Peace and Development in the Great Lakes Region.
Amb. Nduhungirehe said Rwanda reiterated that peace and security are prerequisites for effective humanitarian action in the region. He expressed Rwanda’s appreciation to President Macron for his continued commitment to fostering peace in the Great Lakes.
> “The meeting provided Rwanda with an opportunity to thank President Macron for his dedication to finding lasting solutions to the crisis in eastern Congo, and to reaffirm Rwanda’s commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts in the region,” Nduhungirehe said.
He added that Rwanda stressed the need for all parties to respect the ceasefire agreements signed in Washington and Doha, calling for an immediate end to daily air and drone strikes by the **FARDC
