Why success should no Longer be measured by one definition of womanhood

For generations, women have been caught between two competing ideals. One woman is celebrated for climbing corporate ladders as a lawyer, doctor, or entrepreneur. Another is questioned for choosing to stay home and raise a family. Yet both paths demand strength, sacrifice, and passion. So why do we still measure a woman’s worth through a single, narrow lens?

Redefining what it means to “Have It All”

Modern society still holds quiet expectations. A successful woman must do everything, excel in her career, maintain a perfect body, nurture a stable home all while never appearing overwhelmed. Anything less is often treated as a shortcoming.

But in the relentless pursuit of perfection, many women lose themselves. Freedom is not the ability to do it all — it is the right to choose what truly aligns with one’s purpose. The woman who builds a company and the woman who builds a home are not opposites. They are reflections of the same resilience, expressed differently.

The constant pressure to prove

Achievement has become the default measure of womanhood. We applaud women who break down barriers, but sometimes dismiss those who choose simplicity as if ambition is the only acceptable form of power.

Real empowerment is peace. It is confidence in one’s choices. It is the courage to say, “This is who I am, and it is enough.” A woman’s dignity is not found in her job title, but in her authenticity.

A crossroads for young African women

Balance is not perfection; it’s alignment

Across the African continent, young women stand between tradition and transformation. Cultures place deep value on family and community, while global influences encourage independence and visibility. The challenge is not to choose one over the other but to honor both.

What women need most today is not judgment, but support. A society that celebrates ambition should equally celebrate nurture, rest, and motherhood. When comparison ends, true identity is allowed to thrive.

Being a woman is not a choice between career and family, strength and softness, or leadership and silence. It is the freedom to live out the life designed by God — fully and unapologetically.

A truly successful woman is not the one who “has it all,” but the one who finds peace, purpose, and joy in the path she chooses.
