International Students urged to be Student Visa Compliance

Rwanda Immigration officials have urged international students to strictly follow visa regulations and remain vigilant about security. Speaking at a meeting held at Mount Kigali University, officials reminded students to renew their student visas on time and warned that those who fail to do so are staying in the country illegally, which could lead to deportation.

Frank Kaneza, a representative from the Immigration Office, emphasized the importance of adhering to immigration laws. “If you don’t have a valid visa, you are staying in Rwanda illegally. We urge all international students to follow the law,” he said.

Officials also raised concerns about misconduct among some international students, warning that irresponsible behavior could lead to serious consequences. “Respecting the law is important. Misbehavior not only affects you but also damages the reputation of other international students,” said Antoine Mutsinzi, the District Executive Administrator.

Security was another major topic of discussion. Mutsinzi encouraged students to be cautious and report any security threats in their neighborhoods. “If you see something suspicious or face any security issue, don’t stay silent. Report it to local authorities or community leaders,” he advised.

The meeting concluded with a strong message from the Vice Chancellor of Mount Kigali University, Dr. Martin Kimenia who reminded students that their safety starts with them. “Your security begins with you,” he said, urging all students to be responsible and follow the rules.

This session served as an important reminder for international students to comply with Rwandan laws, behave responsibly, and contribute to a safe and lawful community.
