Mount Kigali University Orientation Empowers First years Journey

On January 6th and 7th, Mount Kigali University (MKU) warmly welcomed its newest students through a two-day orientation program. The event, organized and led by the Dean of Students, was a foundational experience introducing students to university life, academic expectations, and the array of resources available to support their journey.

The orientation sessions provided invaluable insights into the structure and demands of academic life at MKU. Students were guided through the university’s rules and regulations, helping them understand their responsibilities and rights as members of the MKU community. Additionally, the program highlighted key services such as the library, counseling, IT support, and extracurricular activities, all designed to enhance the student experience.

“Welcome to MKU, where opportunities meet preparation,” declared Dean of Students UWIMANA Lucy in her opening address. Her words resonated with the students, inspiring them to embrace the journey ahead with determination and enthusiasm. She emphasized the importance of making use of the university’s facilities and actively engaging in the vibrant academic and social life MKU offers.

One of the highlights of the orientation was an interactive session focusing on academic success strategies. Faculty members and student leaders shared tips on effective time management, goal setting, and leveraging university resources. This session allowed new students to ask questions and gain clarity on how to excel in their studies while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

The program also featured a campus tour, which gave students a first-hand look at the university’s facilities. From state-of-the-art lecture halls to recreational spaces, students were introduced to the physical environment that would become their second home. The tour was particularly appreciated by students unfamiliar with the campus, as it eased any apprehensions they might have had about navigating their new surroundings.

Another memorable moment was the “Welcome Social,” a gathering designed to help students connect with peers and establish a sense of community. Held on the second day, the event included ice-breaking activities, music, and refreshments. Many students expressed their excitement about meeting classmates from diverse backgrounds, fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere from the start.

Dean UWIMANA Lucy concluded the program with a motivational speech, urging students to dream big and take full advantage of the opportunities at MKU. “Your journey begins here,” she said. “Every resource, every mentor, and every experience at MKU is here to prepare you for a future filled with possibilities.” Her words were met with enthusiastic applause, setting a positive tone for the semester ahead.

The orientation program was not only a gateway to academic life but also a celebration of new beginnings. For the students who attended, it marked the start of a transformative journey, filled with learning, growth, and the promise of success. Mount Kigali University’s commitment to supporting its students was evident throughout the event, laying the groundwork for a fulfilling and enriching experience.
