This year’s women Afro basket has kicked off well for Rwanda; happening at BK Arena, Rwanda won their first game played on 28th, July, 2023.
Rwanda led the first quarter of the game after Assouma Uwizeye scored 6 points and 2 rebounds.
In the second quarter, the host team kept its momentum thanks to Destiney Promise Robertson who scored 10 points and 1 rebound closing up the second half with 28-21 for Ivorycoast.
There was a vibrant change on the side of Ivory coast during the third quarter but it didn’t help much as Rwanda’s Destiney Robertson was not backing down.
She scored 8 points and 6 rebounds ending the quarter with 52points for Rwanda against 29 points for Ivory coast.
Team Rwanda scored 12 points in the final quarter while Ivory coast scored 6 points making the former register their first victory in the games with 64-35 points.
Dr. Cheikh Sarr Rwanda’s head coach said she was very pleased with the girl’s first win and promised to prepare them for more.
