Tanzania: Yanga SC crowned NBC Premier League champions

Yanga SC won their fourth consecutive NBC Premier League title after beating Simba SC in the Kariakoo derby at Uwanja wa Mkapa Stadium.

This crucial match was originally scheduled for March, but it was postponed due to various issues and conflicts between Yanga and Simba SC, including a dispute over Simba SC being denied a training pitch.

Following the conflicts between the two teams, Tanzania’s President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, intervened to resolve the disagreements and ensure the game was played.

June 26, 2025, was confirmed as the new date for the match. In this highly anticipated game, Simba SC needed to win to secure the trophy, while Yanga SC only required a draw to lift the title.

In the 66th minute, Yanga SC was awarded a penalty after a mistake by Simba’s goalkeeper. Pacome Zouzoua successfully converted the spot-kick, netting the first goal of the match. Then, in the 86th minute, Yanga SC sealed their victory with a second goal scored by Clement Mzize.

After this decisive game, Yanga SC completed their 30-game season with an impressive 82 points, officially crowning them the champions of the NBC Premier League.
