Rwanda will face Egypt in the final of the under 18- African men’s handball championship. This is after defeating Morocco 35-34 in the championship semi-final. Their opponents Egypt defeated Burundi 66-22 in another semi-final.
The ministry of sports through a tweet congratulated the team. “Congratulations Team Rwanda Handball U18!!! Well-deserved win! Next is the final game against Egypt.” Said a tweet from the ministry of sports.
The top six countries will represent Africa in next year’s under-21 world championship.
Rwanda Handball federation in their tweet said, “Rwanda, Burundi, Egypt, and Morocco have all secured qualification to the 2023 Men’s Youth World Handball Championship after progressing to the semi-finals of the U-18.”
Egypt won the under-20 tournament
In the under-20 category, Egypt was crowned the champion. The tournament was opened in a beautiful ceremony of IMANZI Traditional dance. The president of the African Confederation of Handball (CAHB) Dr. Mansour Amerou said, “Rwanda is a beautiful country and it is very clean the people and even the communication around the people was very good so am taking this time to thank H.E Paul Kagame for welcoming us Ministry of sports Rwanda, Ferwahand and others and in this tournament I hope every country will enjoy”.
Of the 8 countries that are participating in the tournament, Egypt won while Algeria was 2nd position and 3rd position was Tunisia where Rwanda was ranked last in 8th position.
President of Rwanda Handball Federation Alfred Twahira said the tournament will give their team a chance to prepare for Zone five tournament in Nairobi-Kenya.
