Rising Stars of Rwandan Cricket: A Journey of Dedication and Dreams

It requires to pass difficult processes to find players like KUBWIMANA Eric, MANISHIMWE Oscal and MUNYANKINDI Yvonne because they are in many trainings and playing different games until they found themselves in the Rwanda national team of Cricket. MANISHIMWE Oscal and for KUBWIMANA Eric, are the best players who receive the weight of cricket in Rwanda. In Rwanda cricket national team, as all the players it is not easy to get to the national team, it required a lot of effort and hard work. Both Oscal and Eric are sharing interesting stories of their journey to become professionals.

Eric, a player of the Rwanda national cricket team was born on October 4, 1998 where he got a reason to live and do the things he loves as he told us. Since the year 2016, it was when he got an opportunity to study at IPRC Kigali where we got his secondary course, in the department of construction, after his daily studies he used to practice cricket and watch different games as this was his favorite game. Eric, who grew up and loving this game of cricket was dreaming to become famous like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who are the best players of cricket in the Indian national team and in world.

“It just takes a lot of effort and a lot of will to get to the international level, and I am going to work hard, do more practice and often emphasized the importance of dedication and hard work” KUBWIMANA Eric said

MANISHIMWE Oscal’s debut was just the beginning. Over the years, he became the face of Rwanda Cricket. MANISHIMWE Oscal was born in Kigali around 1999, Oscal was destined for greatness. At the tender age of 10, he made his debut on November 15, 2014, His insatiable appetite for runs and countless records watching his name in cricketing history., Oscal’s journey was one of dedication, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

His talent started when he was studying in high school, in the department of Math, Chemistry and Biology (MCB) in Northern provence, college st Ignace. That is where his talent grew to become a good player of cricket because of many experience he got in different high school competitions he participated with the high school team. He told us also that he was good in singing and dancing but as he grew up, he found it not easy to manage those different talents and he made a choice to continue with cricket and during his relaxation after practice he used to sing and dance with his friends. After he continued his studies in the department of medicine in the University of Rwanda

“Cricket is a fascinating sport with a rich of enjoyment and passionate everyone can become a notable player it requires only more practices and spirit to love the game” Oscal said.

MUNYANKINDI Yvonne another famous Rwandan cricket player, a top-order batter and off-spinner for the Rwanda women’s cricket team. She is considered to be one of the best all-rounders and has been ranked as the number one all-rounder in Rwanda women’s cricket.

Yvonne was born in 1997. His debut came on September 23, 2013 to play cricket game, when she was in high school in North Province, Gicumbi District, Rutare Sector, an institution called APEGIRUBUKI TECHNICAL in the Department of Public Work. She played in Highschool Team and this is where she got many practices that made her a greatest player in Cricket.

“In the game of cricket, a hero is a person who respects the game and does not corrupt the game. The one who corrupts the game, they are villain, they should be punished. Also enjoy the game and chase your dreams, dreams do come true” say Yvonne

Yvonne says that finding herself in this game was not easy where it was found very hard as a girl, she felt loosing hope and courage but she puts more efforts and dedication to keep going hence becoming the best one. She says that cricket game is one of her favorite things which she enjoy more.

Even if cricket game is not very famous game in Rwanda but it is one of the game that is engaged by Rwandan youth and get more enjoyment and practice more in the game. Cricket is played between two teams, each consisting of eleven players. The objective of the game is for one team to score more runs than the opposing team. A run is scored when a batsman hits the ball and successfully runs to the opposite end of the pitch. The team bowling tries to dismiss the batsmen by getting them out through various means, such as catching the ball hit by the batsman or hitting the stumps with the ball. The game is divided into innings, with each team having a chance to bat and bowl.
