New students from South Sudan welcomed to Rwanda

The South Sudan Students Association on 18th, March, 2023 welcomed new students from South Sudan to Rwanda in a colorful ceremony held at Kigali Independent University(ULK) Gisozi.

The ceremony brought together South Sudan students from different universities in Rwanda among which were key student leaders who urged the new students to know their purpose for being in Rwanda.

“It is important for the foreign students to utilize the opportunity given to them by the government of Rwanda; to get education by attending classes, using the library and also be integrative with the community of Rwanda”, Mr. Samuel Olami (Former judge-high court South Sudan).

Other key guests included; Eng. Aban Ayiik-PHD student at University of Rwanda(UR), R. Emmanuel-Director of Academic services at ULK, Simon Songa Peter a student at Ines Ruhengeri University and Jeremiah Madhol Ater the president of ‘South Sudan Students Union Rwanda’.

Asked about his experience and challenges in leadership, Jeremiah said; “It is not easy being a leader but it is a learning experience as you get to meet different people with different attitudes which requires you to put your interests behind and the people’s interests at the front”.

The students also engaged in different sports like basketball, volleyball, football in addition to entertaining guests with dances from their home tribes of; Nuer, Acholi, Abaliang, and Shilluk.
