Former Arsenal midfielder charged with multiple sexual offences

Former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, after being formally charged with multiple sexual offenses. Partey, 32, became a free agent on July 1, following the expiration of his contract with Arsenal Football Club.

According to a statement released by the Crown Prosecution Service UK (CPS) on Friday, July 4, Partey has been charged with: Two counts of rape involving one woman, three counts of rape involving a second woman, and one count of sexual assault involving a third woman.

These allegations relate to incidents that reportedly took place between 2021 and 2022. The investigation into these allegations began in February 2022 and has been led by the Metropolitan Police for the past three years.

Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman and Rose, issued a statement asserting, “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.” She added that due to ongoing legal proceedings, her client is unable to comment further.

A police spokesperson stated: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team.”

Partey, who plays as a central midfielder, has been a key figure for the Ghana national team (Black Stars), often serving as vice-captain and regarded as one of the most experienced and influential players in the squad. He has represented Ghana in multiple Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments and the FIFA World Cup, playing a pivotal role in the team’s midfield.

The case has drawn widespread attention due to Partey’s prominent role in both Premier League and international football. His upcoming court appearance on August 5 is expected to provide further clarity on the situation.
