The highly anticipated Dr. Magufuli Bridge, connecting Kigongo and Busisi in Mwanza province, was officially launched on Thursday, June 19, 2025. This significant infrastructure project, initiated during the presidency of the late Dr. John Pombe Magufuli, marks a major milestone for regional connectivity.
Construction of the bridge commenced in 2020 under the leadership of Dr. Magufuli. At the time of his passing in March 2021, the project had reached 24.6% completion. Following her ascension to the presidency in March 2021, President Samia Suluhu Hassan championed the continuation and completion of the bridge.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan presided over the official launch ceremony. According to The Citizen, the Dr. Magufuli Bridge is now recognized as the longest bridge in East and Central Africa, spanning an impressive three kilometers.
