Parents warned against delaying children’s return to school

The National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) has officially set the return dates for boarding school students across all districts in the country. Transportation services will commence today, January 3, 2025.

Students traveling by bus from Nyamirambo Pele Stadium will be shuttled between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM, a schedule that will continue until Monday. The official start of classes for all students, including boarding and day scholars in nursery, primary, and secondary schools, is set for January 6, 2025.

Both the Police and volunteers are on hand to assist students in finding their designated buses.

In an interview with Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA), Emma Claudine Ntirenganya, Head of Communication and Education for Kigali City, voiced concerns over some parents’ habit of delaying their children’s return to school. She stressed that this behavior disrupts the organized transportation system and creates challenges for bus companies contracted to transport students.

“Parents must adhere to the designated return dates,” Ntirenganya urged. “Late arrivals will not be tolerated, and penalties may be enforced. This is vital for the smooth operation of student transportation and to ensure both safety and efficiency.”

She also clarified that students will not be mixed with regular passengers on the same buses. Students are entitled to standard fare rates and will not face increased costs.

After a two-week holiday break, students are now returning to school. Upon arrival at the stadium, students will wait to be called based on their school district location.
